Headline: Police Issue Urgent Warning After Elderly Couple Fall Victim to Bank Fraud in Gummersbach

In a recent incident, an 88-year-old couple from Gummersbach fell victim to bank fraud. The incident serves as a stark reminder for everyone to be vigilant when it comes to protecting personal and financial information.

On August 4th, the couple received a call from a man claiming to be an employee of the banking authority. The caller spoke accent-free German and managed to obtain the PINs of the woman's and her 88-year-old husband's bank cards. He claimed that a member of the security department of the banking authority would visit their residence to collect the bank cards for a criminal technical examination.

Shortly after the call, an accomplice appeared at the residence and the bank cards were handed over. The fraudsters then withdrew a four-digit amount from the couple's account.

The Circles Police Department Oberbergischer Kreis, which is handling the case, advises against disclosing confidential information such as access data, passwords, PINs, or TANs. They also warn against giving bank cards to strangers. The advice is not limited to the specific incident in Gummersbach but applies generally to protect against bank fraud.
