Discussion Ensues between Manchester United and Aston Villa Regarding a Potential Trade Involving Jadon Sancho, while an Agreement on Personal Terms for Emiliano Martinez's Transfer Has Been Finalized
Manchester United are making a late push to secure a new goalkeeper before the transfer window deadline on September 1. The Red Devils have reportedly initiated talks with Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens, offering a fee of £20 million (€23m/$27m). However, Antwerp are holding firm on their €25m valuation for the promising young shot-stopper.
United's interest in Lammens comes as their attempts to sign Jadon Sancho have hit a snag. Sancho's wage demands are proving to be a challenge, making it difficult to find suitors around Europe. As a result, United are considering a swap deal to lower the fee for Alexis Martinez, who plays for Aston Villa.
Villa have also shown interest in Lammens, approaching Antwerp with a potential offer. Meanwhile, Sancho's proposed loan move to Roma has fallen through, leaving his future at Old Trafford uncertain.
In other transfer news, United's first game after the international break will be against Manchester City on September 14. Prior to this, United's manager, Unai Emery, is focusing on improving the squad, having already expressed his satisfaction with the addition of Senne Lammens. Emery, a Spanish football manager known for coaching several top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal FC, acknowledged that his previous goalkeeper was not fully focused, which led to United ultimately choosing Lammens.
It's not just Lammens that United are interested in. Emery is also reportedly keen on signing Diogo Costa from Porto, another goalkeeper who could bolster United's defence. The Portuguese international has shown impressive form in recent seasons and could be an excellent addition to the team.
Meanwhile, Antwerp's Amorim's troops registered their first victory of the season against Burnley, a promising start to their campaign. As the transfer window nears its end, both United and Antwerp will be eager to reach a resolution over Lammens' future.
