Discoverer alerts public: Relocated discoveries of Ice Age artifacts
In an unusual turn of events, the Lower Nature Conservation Authority in Oberhausen is currently investigating the movement of two erratic boulders, registered as natural monuments, from their original location.
The erratics, part of the city's landscape plan, were reported missing by a concerned citizen. Upon investigation, it was found that the local municipality, the property owner, had deliberately moved them to protect the stones from potential damage due to road construction.
The Federal Nature Conservation Act, which prohibits any actions leading to the destruction, damage, or alteration of natural monuments, is applicable in this case. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority is now determining if any violations of the Act occurred in relation to the erratics' movement.
The property owner has yet to provide an explanation for moving the erratics, but an interview is scheduled to better understand the reasons behind the action. The authority's investigation includes interviewing the property owner and inspecting the site where the erratics are now located.
The city administration is dealing with this unusual case, as the erratics are part of the city's landscape plan and are considered natural monuments under the Federal Nature Conservation Act. The city press office has confirmed the incident upon request by the editorial team.
The Lower Nature Conservation Authority will ascertain whether the erratics' movement was a deliberate violation of the Act and take appropriate action accordingly. The public is encouraged to report any such incidents to the authorities to ensure the preservation of our natural heritage.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
