Developers should assume responsibility in the wake of numerous live service closures, asserting the need for a genuine resolution for gamers in the case of Danganronpa's creator's perspective.
In a conversation with Automaton, renowned game developer Kazutaka Kodaka, known for creating Danganronpa and The Hundred Line, has emphasized the importance of planning a conclusion for live service games.
Kodaka, who co-established the unofficial doujin circle Neoneon Tribe, is currently working on concluding the story of the free-to-play action RPG Tribe Nine. The group is utilizing webcomics and various other activities to achieve this end.
According to Kodaka, creators should think about the end of their games from the beginning of the development process. He believes that the end of a game is "inevitable" and developers working on live service games should consider how to wrap up the story in advance.
Kodaka acknowledged that Tribe Nine, which was developed by Akatsuki Games and had Kodaka involved in the concept, music, and character designs, may not have had the ending fans truly hoped for. However, he promised that the conclusion will not make loving the game feel like a mistake or something to be ashamed of.
The developer stated that offering a sincere conclusion is a responsibility of creators when an IP fails as a business. He expressed that creators should consider how to wrap up their projects, regardless of the game's service status.
Neoneon Tribe's work on the Tribe Nine ending is intended to provide closure to fans of the game. Kodaka tweeted that he aims to make the ending compelling, and it will be released for free.
Tribe Nine is set to shut down on November 27. Despite the game's closure, Kodaka's comments underscore the importance of planning for the end of a game, even if it is a live service game. He emphasized that taking responsibility for creating a game and planning for its conclusion is crucial for creators.
