MGM Resorts has proposed an ambitious expansion for its Empire City Casino in Yonkers, New York. The expansion, worth an estimated $2.3 billion, is one of several competing for three downstate casino licenses set to be awarded later this year.

The plan includes the construction of a larger casino, a theater, a parking garage, and the addition of new restaurants. According to Louis Theros, President of the Northeast Group at MGM Resorts, the expansion is expected to create 2,000 permanent jobs.

Theros discussed the proposal on "Inside City Hall" on April 1, 2023. He highlighted the expansion's potential to boost the local economy, create jobs, and provide entertainment options for residents and tourists alike.

The proposed investment would see the casino's current 5,300 slot machines and 135 gaming tables expanded, with the addition of new gaming facilities.
