Devastating Loss: "The family laments that all the toys belonging to their two children have been set ablaze"
In the peaceful neighbourhood of Sellerhausen-Stuetz, a tragic event unfolded on September 1st. A fire raged in the garden of an allotment, belonging to a young couple who had taken it over six years ago. The incident marks the second allotment fire in just a few weeks in Leipzig's eastern district.
The allotment, part of the Kleingartenverein "Stuetz" on Stuetz-Moelkauer-Way, is a cherished space for the family. The couple's children often played there, and their toys were stored within. The woman, deeply distraught, expresses her concern about the future, as they had recently renovated and painted the allotment.
The fire department entered the affected allotment association through a gate broken open by neighbours. However, due to the allotments' location at the end of the garden plot, the firefighters had great difficulty reaching the fire. Despite their best efforts, the blaze spread to the neighbouring allotment, completely burning it down.
Arson investigators from the police examined the remains of the burned allotment on Friday afternoon. Some evidence suggests that the fire was deliberate. Negligent arson, such as by grill coal, is not currently being considered. It is proposed that the police and fire department investigate the possibility of arson in the fire incidents in the allotment gardens in Leipzig's eastern district.
The woman, close to tears, states her fear and frustration. She had been at the site the day before, and everything was in order. The incident brings back memories of another allotment fire that occurred in Stötteritz on Oststraße in early August.
The community is left questioning the safety of their cherished allotments. As the investigation continues, neighbours are banding together, offering support and solidarity to the affected family. The hope is that this unfortunate series of events will lead to increased security measures and peace of mind for all allotment owners in the area.
