Deteriorating weather conditions observed in Konstanz, as reported by FW Konstanz
On a rainy Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Konstanz Fire Department faced numerous challenges due to heavy rainfall that led to flooding and oil spill incidents across the city and its surrounding communities.
The oil spill advisor was called to Gaienhofen in the afternoon, as heating oil had leaked in Moos due to the floods and was washed into Lake Constance. This unfortunate event also affected the communities on the Bodanrück and the Höri.
The oil spill team of the Konstanz Fire Department was alerted to Moos, and the water supply train with the Hytrans roll container was deployed to address the situation. The high-performance pump on board enabled a continuous water supply of up to 8000 liters per minute.
The Wollmatingen department operated the pump until 6:30 PM on August 21, ensuring the pumping out of a total of 20 basements using submersible pumps and water suckers. The oil spill operation in Moos was concluded just before midnight on the same day.
In addition to the Moos incident, numerous flooded basements were reported throughout the city area of Konstanz in the afternoon. A fallen tree blocked the K6172 road, but emergency services swiftly removed it using chain saws.
The head of the Konstanz fire department, Marc Hungerbühler, oversaw the operations on August 21, 2025. Consultation was needed for oil heating tanks washed away by the flood in Gaienhofen, adding to the complexity of the day's challenges.
Despite the multiple incidents, the Konstanz Fire Department managed to respond effectively to the emergencies, demonstrating their dedication and professionalism in ensuring the safety of the community.
