The Kransand elevator in Mainz-Kastel, which began operation in August 2024, has been severely affected by vandalism since June 2023. The vandalism has caused considerable damage, with repair costs amounting to around 6,000 euros for the initial damage in June. A later incident in August 2025 resulted in repair costs in the five-digit range.

The repair of the damaged automatic doors, as well as the rest of the elevator, is expected to take approximately twelve weeks. During this period, the operation of the elevator at the specified location will not be technically possible.

The Kransand elevator offers a significant advantage to passengers getting on and off at the bus stop "Mainz-Kastel Bridgehead". It provides a direct, barrier-free connection between the Kransand area on the Rhine and the traffic hub at the bridgehead, making it particularly beneficial for people with mobility restrictions.

The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden, located at Schlossplatz 6, 65183 Wiesbaden, issued a press release about the elevator. For any questions regarding the elevator, citizens can contact the responsible department or office.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause to the passengers who rely on the Kransand elevator for their daily commute. We hope for a swift and successful repair, and we urge anyone with information about the vandalism to come forward and report it to the authorities.
