Giorgio Armani, the renowned Italian fashion designer who passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday, was laid to rest in a private funeral held in the medieval village of Rivalta, Italy, on Monday afternoon. The surrounding area was closed for security reasons and to ensure the privacy of the event.
The funeral service took place in the small church of San Martino, approximately 100 kilometers south of Milan. Many personalities from both Hollywood and politics paid tribute to Armani, an icon of fashion and builder of an empire in the luxury industry.
However, no publicly available information specifies which prominent personalities were invited to the funeral at the San Martino Church in Rivalta. The private burial was held at the family chapel in Rivalta di Gazzola on September 8, 2025, with around 15,000 people attending his public wake in Milan.
In the days leading up to the funeral, thousands of people visited Armani's open coffin in the Armani Teatro in Milan. Impressive wreaths of roses were placed at the entrance of the room where the coffin rested.
As a mark of mourning, Giorgio Armani's stores closed on Monday from 3 p.m. until the end of the day. Milan has announced a day of mourning on Monday in honour of Armani.
Among the visitors at the public wake in Milan were former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, composer Ludovico Einaudi, President of Napoli FC Aurelio De Laurentiis, and tennis players Fabio Fognini and Flavia Pennetta.
