In a bid to enhance safety and promote efficient use of electric scooters, the first fixed parking areas for these vehicles have been marked in Fürth city. The new parking zones, known as "green parking zones," are strategically placed to influence where electric scooters are parked, ensuring they are quickly reused in useful areas such as near stops or heavily frequented points in the city.

The introduction of these zones was presented to the press by the mayor, marking a significant step in the city's micro-mobility landscape. Electric scooters have been a part of Fürth's transportation system for five years, and opinions on them are divided: some find them a quick way to get around, while others find them an annoyance due to improper parking.

One of the green party councilors, Christoph Wallnöfer, is convinced that these zones can at least help to relieve hotspots in the city. Unused electric scooters are often left in inappropriate locations, causing potential hazards, especially near pedestrian crossings, subway entrances, and stops.

However, concerns about the safety of the marked parking areas have been raised. Xenia Hasenschwanz, a member of the Green Party, expresses her worry about their proximity to the street and uneven surfaces, which could pose a danger, particularly for visually impaired people, the elderly, people with strollers or rollators, and people with other physical limitations.

The second parking area is located at Arbeitsgemeinschaft Notfallmedizin Fürth e.V., while the first fixed scooter parking area is situated at Edeka, right next to the entrance of the gas station. The second parking area is marked on a roughly paved parking lot, providing a slightly safer surface for the scooters.

In May 2021, the Green Party councilors proposed to the traffic committee to examine the implementation of "green parking zones" in the Fürth city area. The Green Party, being the opposition party in the city, has been critical of the city leadership for not acknowledging their contributions.

Despite these concerns, people have grown accustomed to the presence of electric scooters as a means of transportation. The hope is that the introduction of these green parking zones will encourage responsible parking and contribute to a safer and more efficient micro-mobility system in Fürth.
