Demonstrators on A20 Bridge express their yearning
In the small town of Pasewalk-South, a group of demonstrators, known as Klockow 24, have been gathering almost every week since the beginning of the year. Led by Jörg Pfütze from Löcknitz, these demonstrations have been a regular sight on the A20, a major road connecting Berlin and Szczecin.
Jörg Pfütze, a 62-year-old invalid pensioner, stands at the helm of this independent group, which protests without any affiliation to political parties. The core group has been demonstrating on the A20 near Pasewalk-South every Thursday, but they have also been known to organise larger demonstrations on weekends, such as the 13-hour demonstration that took place this past Saturday.
The group, which initially consisted of just Pfütze and his flag, has grown over time. Today, it includes 15 regular protesters from various towns. Among the banners at their demonstrations, you might see messages like "Stop Climate Dictatorship" and "Soldiers of all countries, stay at home."
The demonstrations have received overwhelmingly positive reactions from passing drivers. Many honk their horns in support, wave, and even visitors from other countries have shown their solidarity. However, it seems that no prominent politicians have publicly responded to the demands of Jörg Pfütze and his group.
Despite this, the cooperation between the demonstrators and the police and local authorities remains smooth. The demonstrators never block traffic, and the bridge over the A20 is still passable, with rarely more than two drivers using it per day.
However, there have been instances where unwanted participants from the Loecknitz area have joined their demonstrations, leading to the need for the police to be called. Jörg Pfütze does not tolerate anti-constitutional attitudes or symbols at his demonstrations, and he and his comrades would distance themselves from any "extremely right or left" groups.
Among the regular demonstrators is Ilka Bleek, a 70-year-old retiree from Polzow, who can often be seen waving a blue flag with a white dove of peace. The group brings grilled food, solyanka, warm drinks, music, and a mobile toilet for their demonstrations, making them a familiar sight along the A20.
This Saturday marked the 86th gathering of the demonstrations, and the group shows no signs of slowing down. Rain or shine, they continue to stand on the side of the road, advocating for their cause. While they may not have the support of politicians yet, their determination and resilience are undeniable.
