Delayed Release Date for Mortal Kombat 2, resulting in a potentially favorable launch period
Get ready, action fans! The highly anticipated sequel to the successful Mortal Kombat reboot, Mortal Kombat 2, is set to hit the big screen next year. The film, which has already generated a lot of buzz due to its recent trailer showcasing the video game franchise's signature fatalities, stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage.
Urban, best known for his role as Billy Butcher in Amazon's superhero show, The Boys, is thrilled to be a part of Mortal Kombat 2. He believes that everyone involved in the film has leveled up significantly, and he's not holding back his praise. In fact, he's compared the film to The Road Warrior in relation to Mad Max.
The film, which was initially scheduled for an October 2025 release, has been moved to May 15, 2026. This new release date places it after The Devil Wears Prada 2 (May 1) and before The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22), 2026.
Joining Urban in Mortal Kombat 2 are an impressive cast of actors, including Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
The film is expected to feature grisly-looking losses and at least one person being told to "get over here". The trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 suggests a significant level-up in the film, with more intense action and a representation of the world and characters that Urban thinks is the best yet.
