Degtyarsk bets on sports and tourism to spark growth in the Urals

Degtyarsk, a small Ural town with deep industrial roots, is setting its sights on growth through sports and tourism. Local leaders are pushing forward with major projects, including a new stadium and upgrades to essential infrastructure. The plans aim to modernise the town while keeping costs manageable for residents and businesses alike. Mayor Vadim Trofimov has highlighted urgent repairs to the town’s utilities as a top priority. Over 7 kilometres of ageing heating pipes and 18 sections of the water supply network require immediate replacement. These upgrades form part of a broader effort to secure funding, with the municipality preparing to apply for the Modernization of Municipal Infrastructure program next year.

Work on the Vyazovsky Reservoir dam is already underway, with completion expected by the end of 2024. The project is one of several aimed at improving local infrastructure and safety. A major focus for Degtyarsk’s future lies in the Olymp ski resort, which officials hope will draw visitors and boost the local economy. Alongside tourism, a new 456-million-ruble stadium is being constructed, funded by regional and federal budgets. Scheduled to open by late 2027, the venue is designed to become a central hub for the community. Private sector support is also playing a role in the town’s development. Uraltekhfilter-Izhengineering, a long-standing social partner since 2009, plans to build an Engineering Club for its employees’ children. The company continues to back various local initiatives, reinforcing ties between industry and the town. The combined efforts reflect Degtyarsk’s push to balance industrial heritage with modern opportunities in sports, tourism, and infrastructure.

The new stadium and ski resort are set to redefine Degtyarsk’s public spaces and economic prospects. With ongoing repairs to critical utilities and support from local businesses, the town is positioning itself for steady growth. Officials now await decisions on funding applications to further accelerate these plans.
