Russian Air Defense Forces Repel Multiple Drone Attacks in Leningrad Region

The Russian Air Defense Forces have been actively defending the Leningrad Region against a series of drone attacks in recent days. On August 24, the unit was responsible for shooting down six drones near Kingisepp, a district bordering Estonia, and an additional ten drones near the port of Ust-Luga.

The day before, on August 23, the air defense forces had destroyed eight drones on the outskirts of St. Petersburg and in the Leningrad region. These incidents mark a continuation of the regular and significant threat from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as indicated by the interception of 51 drones in late July.

One of the drones destroyed near Ust-Luga caused a fire at the terminal, prompting the intervention of firefighters and rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations. However, as preliminarily reported by Governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, there are no casualties in the fire at the terminal in Ust-Luga.

Similar attacks have occurred in the past, with one drone falling just 20 kilometers from the border. The downed drones in the recent attacks were also reportedly from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The air defense forces' efforts against drone attacks have been ongoing and persistent, with multiple incidents reported in various locations over a period of time. On August 24 alone, the Leningrad Region air defense forces destroyed a total of sixteen drones.

Governor Drozdenko has confirmed that there are no casualties in these incidents, emphasising the effective response of the air defense forces in protecting the region. The Kingisepp district, on the border with Estonia, was the focus of the air defense forces' efforts on August 24.

The series of drone attacks started on August 23, a day before the incidents near the border with Estonia. The attacks on August 24 were not limited to the Kingisepp district, as ten more drones were also destroyed near the port of Ust-Luga.

The air defense forces will continue to monitor and respond to any threats posed by drone attacks, ensuring the safety and security of the Leningrad Region.
