Deepest Sympathies Extended by Palestinians to Portugal Due to Tragedy

In a heartfelt response to a recent accident in Lisbon, the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Portugal has extended its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims. The accident, which occurred on the Elevador da Glória, a popular tourist destination and a part of Lisbon's transportation system, resulted in 16 unfortunate deaths and caused two dozen injuries.

The Elevador da Glória, operated by Carris, connects Restauradores to Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara in the Bairro Alto, covering approximately 265 meters. This tragic incident has shaken not only the local community but also the global tourist community.

The Palestinian Ministry has conveyed its sincere condolences to the Portuguese Republic for the victims of this unfortunate accident. The Ministry also expressed its solidarity with Portugal during this difficult time. The current Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Luís Carneiro, received these condolences on behalf of the Portuguese government.

In response to this tragic event, the Government of Portugal declared a day of national mourning, which was observed today. A report on the accident is expected in 45 days, and the investigation into its causes is requested to be conducted quickly.

The Palestinian Ministry wishes a speedy recovery to the injured, expressing its hope that they will find solace and healing during this challenging time. The Palestinian diplomatic mission in Portugal has emphasised that it stands in solidarity with Portugal during this period of grief and mourning.
