In the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, the landscape of daycare and kindergarten facilities has seen some shifts as of the beginning of March 2023.

According to recent data, the number of daycare centres and kindergartens in Saxony-Anhalt has slightly decreased from 1,816 to 1,807. However, the number of children attending these facilities has seen a slight decrease as well, with 152,143 children now enrolled, down from 154,892 in the same period last year.

The number of children in daycare has remained consistent across age groups. There are 2,626 fewer children under three in daycare, while the number of six- to ten-year-old children has increased by 585, and the number of eleven- to thirteen-year-old children has risen by 229. The number of three- to five-year-old children has also decreased by 937.

The person responsible for the development and design of the kindergarten and daycare landscape in Saxony-Anhalt is Minister Petra Grimm-Benne.

One notable change is the attendance rate for three- to five-year-olds, which has significantly increased from 92.9% to 98.8%. The attendance rate for children under three has remained virtually unchanged at 59.2%.

In Saxony-Anhalt, approximately every fourth family where at least one parent is foreign predominantly speaks German. It is unclear, however, how many children in daycare have at least one parent of foreign origin. Approximately 15% of children in daycare are estimated to have at least one parent of foreign origin.

The majority of kindergartens in Saxony-Anhalt are under public sponsorship, with 1,010 kindergartens falling under this category. There are also 797 kindergartens operated by private providers.

Lastly, 140 daycare providers in Saxony-Anhalt continue to care for 600 children each. The number of daycare providers has remained the same as in the previous period.
