Decades-long financing for local bus services in the region

The Ministry of Transport in Baden-Württemberg has announced the expansion of its Regiobus network with the launch of new lines. The announcement was made in a press release on December 28, 2024.

The modern and comfortable bwregiobuses, operating in the distinctive white-yellow-grey bwegt design, are proving to be a high-quality alternative to motorized individual traffic in rural areas. These bwregiobuses, part of the bwegt Brand Family, connect cities and communities without rail connections, forming an important link in the mobility transition.

The bwregiobuses, in combination with trains, on-demand services, cycling, and walking, offer a sustainable and climate-friendly mobility solution. Since the start of the "Regiobus Lines" funding program in 2015, 51 bwregiobus lines have been planned and implemented across various cities and districts in Baden-Württemberg.

Some of the notable examples include the Schiltach-Schramberg-Rottweil, Calw-Weil der Stadt, and Breisach-Bad Krozingen lines, which have seen an increase in passenger numbers. Last year, around twelve million passengers traveled with the bwregiobuses.

Cities and counties can choose to design their vehicles in the white-yellow-gray bwregiobus design when applying. The state provides around 30 million euros annually for new lines or extensions of existing funding.

The "bwegt" initiative, an initiative by the state of Baden-Württemberg, collaborates with regional railway companies and other partners to improve local and regional public transport. The initiative focuses on various sectors including Funding, Climate Protection, Transport, Public Transport, and Rural Areas.

The Ministry of Transport has published fact sheets on the Use of Regiobus Lines, Funding for Regiobus Lines, and Milestones of the Funding Program "Regiobus Lines". Contact details for the Ministry's Press Office and Citizen Liaison Officer are available online for those seeking more information.

Equipped with boarding and alighting aids, WLAN, and USB power outlets, the bwregiobuses travel directly and quickly from place to place. The bwregiobuses offer a comfortable and efficient means of transportation, contributing to the mobility transition in Baden-Württemberg.
