Deadly road accident on Werler Street, causing loss of life
In the city of Hamm, a 38-year-old cyclist was hit by flying vehicle parts and sustained minor injuries in an incident that occurred recently. The police's press office can be contacted for inquiries at [email protected] or 02381 916-1006.
On a separate note, a tragic incident occurred on September 1st, when a 43-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a traffic accident on Werler Street. The collision involved a BMW car traveling out of the city, with the motorcycle colliding with the passenger side of the BMW in the intersection area during a turning maneuver by the 68-year-old driver, who violated traffic rules.
Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation, the motorcyclist died at the scene. The 63-year-old passenger in the BMW had to be extricated by rescue services and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Following the accident, Werler Street was completely closed between Rhynerberg and Dr.-Loeb-Caldenhof-Straße for the accident investigation until 9:30 PM. Traffic was rerouted during this time.
The police station in Hamm ensured traffic safety at the accident site on Werler Straße by supporting the installation of new traffic signs at the intersection Werler Straße/Fischerstraße/Heideweg. This included a blue directional sign indicating allowed directions and a "no entry" sign for the Heideweg except for buses and cyclists, to prevent illegal turns. Traffic was temporarily diverted over the Heideweg and Loeb-Caldenhof-Straße during the accident investigations and clearance.
Both vehicles involved in the incident were impounded. Several emergency chaplains, a team from the police's victim support service in Hamm, an accident investigation team from Münster police, firefighters, and bystanders and witnesses provided first aid.
It is not specified if the accident on September 1st and the current incident are related. The police headquarters Hamm's website is https://hamm.polizei.nrw/ for further updates and information. The cyclist from the recent incident was taken to a hospital for outpatient treatment.
We extend our condolences to the families and friends affected by the tragic incident on September 1st. Road safety is of utmost importance, and we urge all road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
