Day's Agenda for 'Tour dementia': Event Highlights Including Family and Victim Support Programme

On September 17, 2025, Bergisch Gladbach will host an action-packed day dedicated to the topic of dementia. This event, coinciding with World Alzheimer's Day, promises a varied programme that includes lectures, exhibitions, interactive activities, and information booths.

The day kicks off with the display of "The Shine of Age" portrait photos from Caritas RheinBerg's encounter centres on the Market Square at 2:30 PM. At 3:25 PM, a bicycle tour called the "Tour Demenz," led by the First Deputy Mayor Anna Maria Scheerer and other representatives, will arrive at the Market Square.

One of the highlights of the day is the lecture titled "Dement - what now?" given by Senior Physician Meike Jacobsen at the DRK Refrather Treff. This event aims to provide insights and answers for those navigating the challenges of dementia.

For caring relatives, the Contact office for care self-help offers essential information and support. The Office on Aging and Care Counseling Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis also have information and materials available.

At Villa Zanders, two fascinating lectures are scheduled. Prof. Dr. Claudia Koonz and Dr. Robert Sturmer will speak in the lecture "In the rhythm of memory" at 16:00. Following this, at the same venue, Claudia Freudenberger from the guardianship office of the city of Bergisch Gladbach will share valuable insights on legal representation options in dementia.

Participants can also join a guided tour "With all senses" at 4:00 PM at Villa Zanders, focusing on the encounter with selected artworks of the exhibition "Eckart Hahn: Papiertiger." Registration for this tour and for the break with snacks and drinks after the tour is required by September 15, 2025.

ADFC Rhein-Berg offers an E-Tandem for those who wish to try out electric bicycles. The City Library, too, has an information booth and offers interactive activities.

Nicole Sutschet, Police Sergeant and Traffic Safety Advisor, will give a lecture on driving with dementia at the Volkshochschule Bergisch Gladbach. Radwerk (Caritas) accompanies the bicycle group of the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia Bergisches Land.

This action day aims to raise awareness, provide support, and foster understanding about dementia. It's an opportunity for the community to come together, learn, and share experiences. Best of all, participation in all events is free of charge. Don't miss out! Register for your preferred events by September 15, 2025.
