Alisson Becomes Liverpool's Seventh Goalkeeper to Reach 300 Appearances

Alisson Becker, the current Liverpool goalkeeper, made history on the opening day of the 2025/26 season as he played in his 300th game for the club. The Brazilian joined Liverpool from Roma in 2018, breaking the record for the world's most expensive goalkeeper at £66million.

Since his arrival, Alisson has been instrumental in Jurgen Klopp's side's success, winning a total of five trophies for the Merseyside club. These include the 2019 Champions League, an FA Cup, a League Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. Last season, Alisson overtook David James' mark of 277 appearances for the club, a feat he achieved in his eighth season at Anfield.

Alisson's journey began in Brazil with Basicia before he moved to AS Roma. His performances in Europe caught the eye of Liverpool, who signed him in 2018. Since then, he has proven to be a reliable and crucial player for the Reds, especially during the Covid-19-hit season of 2019/20 when they claimed the Premier League title.

David James, who played as the Liverpool No.1 goalkeeper for seven years in the 1990s, admires Alisson both on and off the pitch. James, who was ranked at no.5 in a list of the best Premier League goalkeepers ever last year, has met Alisson personally and recognises the Brazilian's immense talent.

Alisson's accomplishments with Liverpool are significant. He has joined the ranks of legendary goalkeepers such as Ray Clemence, Bruce Grobbelaar, Elisha Scott, Pepe Reina, Tommy Lawrence, and Arthur Riley, who have all reached 300 appearances for the club.

The Spice Boys era saw Liverpool come up short in their quest to reclaim the top-flight title, a drought that lasted 30 years. However, Alisson's arrival and subsequent performances have been crucial in ending that wait and ushering in a new era of success for the Reds.

As Alisson continues to perform at the highest level, he will undoubtedly be a key player in Liverpool's future success. His current contract with the club runs until 2025, ensuring that Reds fans can look forward to seeing him in action for at least another three years.
