The Danish Gambling Authority cracks down on unlicensed streamersAnother successful case against Twitch gamblersStrict regulations for the popular streaming platform
Looks like the Danish Gambling Authority, or Spillemyndigheden, isn't messing around when it comes to unlicensed websites lurking on Twitch. They recently slapped a DKK10,000 fine on a Twitch streamer for promoting illegal gambling services without a valid license for Denmark.
The regulator first caught wind of this shenanigans back in 2023 and handed the case over to the cops, eventually leading to the hefty fine that they recommended. Spillemyndigheden shared that this was their second win against streamers promoting unlicensed gambling websites.
Putting the Screws on Streamers: Twitch's Crackdown
Twitch was feeling the pressure in 2022 and 2023, so they decided to toughen up their stance on gambling-related streams. By tightening their rules, they set the stage to control the runaway streamers plugging unlicensed gambling websites in the US.
Unsurprisingly, some content creators bid adieu to Twitch and moved over to Kick, a platform backed by Stake that doesn't intervene in gambling matters. However, Kick does give users the choice to block gambling content, just in case. Anyone meeting the legal gambling age can tune in to gambling streams if they're feeling lucky.
Keeping it Clean: Google Steps Up
Joining the party, Google rolled out tighter ads regulations in mid-April, aiming to squash unapproved gambling sites that might sneak past licensing requirements.

In the realm of finance and technology, the Danish Gambling Authority has been taking a firm stance against unlicensed gambling activities on streaming platforms like Twitch, as seen in their crackdown on Twitch streamers and their subsequent financial penalties. This move is part of a broader news trend focusing on the regulation of casino-and-gambling activities in the general news sector.
Moreover, in response to growing concerns regarding gambling-related content on platforms like Twitch, tech companies are stepping up their game to enforce stricter regulations, as exemplified by Google's recent updates to their ads regulations, aimed at eliminating unapproved gambling sites.
