In a significant development, Danish company Dansk Polyglas has been awarded a contract by CS Wind Offshore to supply transition piece covers for Vattenfall's Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm. Located 85 kilometres north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea, Nordlicht 1 is one of two offshore wind farms being developed by Vattenfall in the region.

The wind farm will consist of 68 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines, making it a substantial project. CS Wind Offshore, who will also be supplying transition pieces (TPs) for both Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2, has added Scanel to the team for Nordlicht 1.

This isn't the first time Dansk Polyglas and Vattenfall have worked together. In the past, they have collaborated on the 605 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark. Interestingly, Dansk Polyglas has reused 42 transition piece covers originally deployed at Kriegers Flak for Nordlicht 1.

CS Wind Offshore will be responsible for manufacturing all 68 transition pieces for Nordlicht 1, which Dansk Polyglas will deliver covers for. Germany's EEW SPC will deliver the monopiles for Nordlicht 1, while the 112 foundations will be installed at the sites by DEME.

CS Wind Offshore's contract to supply TPs for both Nordlicht 1 (980 MW) and Nordlicht 2 (630 MW) was signed with the developer in January 2025. While the specific role of Scanel in the Nordlicht 1 project is not specified, it is expected that they will contribute to the development.

Both Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2 are expected to enter operation in 2028, marking a significant step forward in Germany's renewable energy ambitions. The collaboration between Dansk Polyglas, CS Wind Offshore, Scanel, EEW SPC, DEME, and Vattenfall is a testament to the growing momentum in the offshore wind sector.
