In the bustling world of renewable energy, Scanel has recently joined the team working on Vattenfall's Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm project. This isn't the first time that Scanel has been involved in a collaboration with Vattenfall, but the specific role Scanel will play in this project is yet to be specified.

The Nordlicht 1 wind farm, located 85 kilometres north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea, is expected to enter operation in 2028, just like its twin project, Nordlicht 2. The wind farm will feature 68 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines.

CS Wind Offshore, a company already involved in the project, will supply the turbine platforms (TPs) for both Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2, as per a contract signed in January 2025. In a separate agreement, Dansk Polyglas has been awarded a contract to supply transition piece covers for Vattenfall's Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm. Under the contract, Dansk Polyglas will deliver covers for all 68 transition pieces, manufactured by CS Wind Offshore for Nordlicht 1.

The addition of Scanel to the team does not alter the location of the wind farm, the number of transition piece covers to be supplied by Dansk Polyglas, the number or type of turbines, or the expected operation date. It also does not affect the developer of the wind farm, which remains Vattenfall, or the manufacturer of the transition pieces, which remains CS Wind Offshore.

The contract between Dansk Polyglas and CS Wind Offshore for Nordlicht 1 is still ongoing, with no information available regarding its completion or termination. The identity of the developer who signed the contract with CS Wind Offshore in January 2025 for the TPs for Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2 could not be definitively ascertained from available search results.

Germany's EEW SPC will deliver the monopiles for Nordlicht 1, while the 112 foundations will be installed at the sites by DEME. The specific roles that each company will play in the project will be revealed in due course.

As the project progresses, it is exciting to see new players joining the team and contributing to the growth of renewable energy, particularly offshore wind farms. With Scanel on board, we look forward to the successful completion of the Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm project.
