Surprised FCM defender - Daniel Heber reflects on his new position.

A novel situation for the seasoned central defender, Heber: "I received the instructions from the coach. It was evident to me that I'd be taking up the challenge and I didn't inquire further."

In the absence of viable substitutes on the wings, coach Christian Titz (53) resorted to a change. Similarly, Mohammed El Hankouri (syndesmosis ligament tear) and Leon Bell Bell (groin injury) have both been recently sidelined.

Heber's perspective: "It was an unaccustomed role. I believe I can excel in it. The debut was passable. If you're not accustomed to it, having the ball repeatedly can leave you winded. It's a position that demands loads of running."

The truthful words of Heber! He had previously played as a wing defender a few years back but in a more defensive capacity.

Heber elaborates: "The Magdeburg system is more taxing. Sometimes, you even operate as an attacking right-winger. There are more offensive maneuvers than when you shift from the back."

The reality is: with 11.2 kilometers of movement, Heber was on the go more frequently than ordinarily on the wing. When inquired about his opinion on the fresh role, Heber smiled: "I relish playing in both roles."
