D.C. Mardi Gras group marks 20 years since Hurricane Katrina's devastation

Krewe of Pyros Marks Two Decades of Growth and Resilience

Twenty years after the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina, the Krewe of Pyros, a Mardi Gras organization based in Washington D.C., continues to thrive and evolve. Founded by survivors of the 2005 storm, the Krewe has transformed from a group of individuals seeking solace into a capable organisation capable of assisting in any future storm.

The pain from Hurricane Katrina still lingers for the members of the Krewe of Pyros, but among the grief, there is hope. Cleve Davis, the President of the Krewe, described the immediate feelings after the storm as a combination of loss and love.

During their anniversary event, the Krewe of Pyros acknowledged how far they've come 10 years after their founding. Lytaria "Cuba" Walker, the Executive Director of Krewe of Pyros and a lobbyist in Washington, stated that they are now capable of assisting in any storm.

The Krewe of Pyros is made up of survivors of Hurricane Katrina, transplants from Louisiana who brought all things Louisiana to D.C. The organisation's focus on community service and prevention of disasters underscores their commitment to their mission and the well-being of their community.

The Krewe of Pyros continues to serve their community despite the trauma they experienced from Hurricane Katrina. Their efforts are not limited to post-disaster relief, but extend to promoting policies aimed at preventing future disasters.

At their anniversary event, the Krewe of Pyros members gathered to reflect and pray on the storm's 20th anniversary. The event included a memorial service, as well as acknowledgement of their progress and capabilities. Lytaria "Cuba" Walker's statement highlights the growth and development of the Krewe of Pyros over the years.

The Krewe of Pyros has evolved to a point where they can potentially assist in any storm that may occur. This transformation from a group of Hurricane Katrina survivors to a capable organisation is a testament to their resilience and determination. The Krewe of Pyros continues to serve their community and aims to prevent future disasters through their community service and policy promotion.
