Customs officials in Bielefeld scrutinize taxi and car hire business for alleged minimum wage infractions.

The Main Customs Office Bielefeld is leading a series of inspections aimed at ensuring compliance with minimum wage regulations in the taxi and rental car industry across various locations in North Rhine-Westphalia. These locations include Bielefeld, Hamm, Herford, and Paderborn.

The inspections, which began last week, are part of an ongoing action initiated by the Main Customs Office Bielefeld. The tax offices in Minden and Paderborn are providing support for these inspections.

During the inspections, 66 drivers were questioned at various taxi stands about their employment conditions. Detailed business document inspections, specifically payroll and financial accounting, will be conducted at taxi and rental car companies.

So far, irregularities have been found in eight cases, which are currently under investigation. Five cases involve violations of the minimum wage, and in two cases, there is suspicion of withholding social security contributions. In one case, the obligation to carry identification documents was not fulfilled.

The inspections will also investigate any remaining irregularities found during last week's inspections, including violations of the minimum wage, withholding of social security contributions, and lack of identification document compliance.

The general statutory minimum wage, currently €12.82 per hour, applies to the taxi and rental car industry. For more information, Ralf Wagenfeld can be contacted at (0521) 3047-1095 or via email at [email protected]. The website for further information is www.zoll.de.

It is important to note that the specific names of the affected taxi and rental car companies investigated by the Financial Control of Illegal Employment of the Main Customs Office Bielefeld during the minimum wage inspections last weekend have not been publicly disclosed.

The inspections will focus on ensuring compliance with minimum wage regulations to protect the rights of workers and maintain fair competition in the industry. The inspections are a testament to the Main Customs Office Bielefeld's commitment to enforcing labour laws and promoting social justice.
