Customizable Side Panel from Noctua Reduces Framework's Desktop Noise by 5-7 Decibels with Freely Available Modification

The tech world is buzzing with excitement about the latest collaboration between Framework and Noctua. The Framework Desktop, a customizable PC, is now offering even more options for users who want to tailor their device to their specific needs.

Customizability at Its Finest

The Framework Desktop allows for a wide range of customizable options, including the chassis, side panels, and ports. This means that users can design their PC to suit their aesthetic preferences and functional requirements.

Powerful Performance

The Framework Desktop can be configured with an AMD Ryzen processor, ranging from the AI Max 385 to the Max+ 395. It also supports up to 128GB of RAM and up to 8TB of storage from a high-speed SSD.

Freebies from Noctua

To sweeten the deal, Noctua is giving away the Framework Desktop custom fan duct and the Framework Desktop side panel for free. These additions not only enhance the PC's appearance but also contribute to its improved cooling system.

Cooling System Upgrades

Noctua has released a 3D-printable duct system for the NF-AS12x25 fan, designed to fit the Framework desktop PC case. This duct system lowers the noise levels of the Framework desktop PC by 5-7 decibels, making it a quieter, more enjoyable computing experience.

Noctua has also customized the side panel of the Framework desktop PC to fit the NF-A12x25 fan and a duct system. Integrating the fan and duct system into the side panel improves cooling performance, ensuring that the PC runs smoothly even under heavy load.

Printing Options

Printing the Framework Desktop side panel can be done using either the Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro or the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. The Neptune 3 Pro takes just under nine hours, while the Centauri Carbon takes just over two hours.

Pre-Order and Availability

While the Framework Desktop is not currently available for immediate purchase, it can be pre-ordered. The device is expected to ship in Q4 of this year.

Testing and Improvements

Noctua has tested the system thoroughly, including the G2 variant of the NF-12x25 fan, which lowers noise levels by an additional 1.5 decibels. However, at extreme load with high ambient temperatures, the system can overheat when using the G2 variant of the NF-12x25 fan.

In an attempt to further reduce noise levels, Noctua tried adding a second 80mm exhaust fan at the front of the case. However, this increased noise levels beyond what Noctua found acceptable.

Downloadable Models

The free 3D printing model of the Framework Desktop dust protection valve provided by Noctua can be downloaded from Noctua’s official website or their designated support/downloads section. The Framework Desktop custom fan duct and the Framework Desktop side panel can also be downloaded from Noctua's printables account.

In conclusion, the Framework Desktop and Noctua collaboration offers a customizable, high-performance PC with an enhanced cooling system. With its quiet operation, seamless upgradability, and sleek design, the Framework Desktop is sure to be a hit with tech enthusiasts and casual users alike.
