On Monday evening, at 19:07, a serious traffic accident occurred on Bergedorfer Straße in Hamburg-Lohbrügge. Three vehicles were involved in the incident, resulting in one person being seriously injured and five others sustaining light injuries.

The accident began when a BMW (1 series), driven by a 47-year-old, was travelling on the left lane of Bergedorfer Straße towards Billstedt. During the overtaking process, two other vehicles, a Porsche SUV (presumably Cayenne) and another BMW (3 series), illegally overtook the 47-year-old's car using a lane of oncoming traffic.

In the process, the two BMW vehicles touched each other, causing the 47-year-old's car to overturn and come to a stop. The driver of the fleeing Porsche SUV involved in the accident is currently unknown, and the police are searching for witnesses as the identity has not been determined yet.

The 19-year-old driver of the BMW (3 series) was seriously injured and was transported to a hospital. The three occupants of the other BMW and the passengers in the 19-year-old's BMW were also lightly injured and transported to hospitals. Both involved vehicles, the BMW (1 series) and the Porsche SUV, were severely damaged and had to be towed away.

A criminal proceeding has been initiated against the 19-year-old BMW driver, a German national, for suspected participation in an illegal street race. The driver's license of the 19-year-old was seized at the scene.

The traffic accident investigation has been taken over by the Traffic Direction Mitte / West (VD 2). The further investigations are being conducted by officers of the Traffic Direction South (VD 42).
