Cuba's top official set for state visit, scheduled to attend Vietnam's 80th Independence Day celebration

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, the President of Cuba and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, is set to embark on a significant international trip to Vietnam. The visit, confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is scheduled from August 31 to September 2.

The trip marks a strengthening of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Vietnam, as both leaders will attend various ceremonies and events during the visit. One of the main purposes of the visit is to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution in Vietnam, a historic event that led to the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Diaz-Canel will also be present at the National Day of Vietnam celebrations, honouring the country's independence and unity. The visit is a testament to the growing bond between the two nations, as both share a common history of revolution and socialist ideals.

The invitation for the visit was extended by General Secretary Tô Lâm, the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee. This state visit is a diplomatic visit, further emphasising the strong ties between Cuba and Vietnam.

Before becoming the President of Cuba, Diaz-Canel was a loyal and effective party functionary who steadily rose through the ranks of the Communist Party. He was handpicked as the successor of Raúl Castro, born in 1960 in Villa Clara province shortly after the Cuban Revolution.

Accompanying Diaz-Canel on this trip will be his spouse, as reported by VNA/VNS. The visit promises to be an important event in the diplomatic calendar, further cementing the friendship between Cuba and Vietnam.
