Crossing the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean in a humble rowboat, a group of Scots embark on a daring journey to satisfy their craving for pizza.
In an extraordinary feat of endurance and determination, the Scottish brothers Jamie, Ewan, and Lachlan Maclean have completed a record-breaking fundraising voyage across the Pacific Ocean. The brothers, who founded the Maclean Foundation and undertook the journey to raise funds for drinking water projects, covered nearly 9,000 miles (14,484 km) in just 139 days, 5 hours, and 52 minutes.
The brothers, who hail from Scotland, undertook this challenge in a specially designed carbon fiber boat named "Rose Emily." No accompanying boat or resupply of provisions was available during the voyage. They started their journey in South America and ended in Australian Cairns, breaking the previous record set by Russian Fedor Konyukhov, who took over 159 days to cover a distance of 7,393 miles (11,898 km) in 2014.
The journey was a charity event for the Maclean Foundation, a water projects fund they established. The brothers aimed to raise one million pounds for their foundation. Upon arrival, Jamie Maclean expressed a simple desire for a pizza, while Ewan shared that they cried from sadness and fear at times, but the support of their well-wishers gave them strength.
The brothers had 500 kilograms of supplies on board during the voyage. As they approached the end of the journey, they had to push harder to ensure supplies didn't run out. The voyage was reported by the PA news agency and has captured the imagination of people worldwide.
Jamie Maclean described the journey as the "most incredible, relentless, and often surreal experience" of his life. The brothers' family members traveled to meet them upon their arrival, marking a triumphant end to their record-breaking adventure. The Maclean brothers have shown that with determination, perseverance, and a noble cause, one can achieve the seemingly impossible.
