Critics Silenced: Anoushka Shankar Rebuts Body-Shaming Detractors

In a bold move, 12-times Grammy nominated sitarist Anoushka Shankar has spoken out against body-shaming trolls on Instagram. The daughter of Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, Shankar has been the target of sexist comments about her clothes and body by male strangers.

One commenter said, "Indian classical music is sacred music. But the attire worn is not matching," while another wrote, "You are blessed but no need to show cleavage." Shankar, who is 44 years old, has not accepted any banal, pathetic comments from these strangers. Instead, she has reiterated that her body is not anyone else's to comment on and that her choices are hers to make.

Shankar views her body as both ordinary and miraculous, having carried her through various life experiences including childbirth, child sexual abuse, four major surgeries, and addiction. She described her body as a "complete, badass warrior" on her behalf.

Anoushka Shankar also shared more details about her struggles, including battling undiagnosed neurodivergence, an autoimmune disorder, and heavy period pain and migraines from the age of eleven. She emphasized that it is not the recipient's shame to carry such comments, but rather the commenters'.

Hrithik Roshan lauded Saba Azad for her work on Songs of Paradise, but the focus this week has been on Shankar's courage in standing up against body-shaming on social media. There is no specific information in the search results about any organization or association that supported or participated with Shankar in her confrontation against these trolls.

Shankar's Instagram posts have been targeted with rude comments, including comments about her holiday outfit and consideration for her father's image. However, Shankar has remained unphased and continues to post content that reflects her personal style and beliefs.

In a world where body-shaming is still a prevalent issue, Shankar's stand against such comments serves as a powerful reminder that everyone deserves respect and the right to express themselves freely.
