Criminals on the run receive 18-month prison sentences: Warrant executed by federal police in BPOL NRW
On January 31, a 33-year-old man was stopped by federal police officers at Recklinghausen Central Station. The man, who is a resident of Gladbeck, had been wanted by the public prosecutor's office in Essen with an arrest warrant.
During a pat-down search, the officers discovered a prohibited butterfly knife in the man's jacket pockets. The man had been repeatedly told not to reach into his pockets, but he continued to do so. The federal police seized the knife and initiated an investigation procedure for violating the weapons law.
The butterfly knife, a folding knife with two-part, swiveling handles on the same plane, is classified as a prohibited weapon in Germany. The man had not surrendered to the enforceable sentence imposed by the Gladbeck local court for various offenses, for which he was sentenced to one year and six months in prison.
The federal police officers arrested the man and took him to a prison, where he is expected to serve an 18-month sentence. The Gladbeck local court convicted the man definitively in June 2023 for various offenses, including insult, driving without a license in four cases, bodily injury, theft in five cases, embezzlement, property damage, burglary, and violating the compulsory insurance law.
