Crayon and NovaStor are collaborating together on a project.
Novastor GmbH, a German backup software provider, has entered into a strategic partnership with Norwegian IT service provider Crayon. This collaboration aims to make Novastor's robust data backup solutions more popular in the channel, potentially expanding the company's reach beyond Germany.
Founded in the USA in 1987 and later sold to an investor group in 2009, Novastor has been developing its products exclusively at its headquarters in Hamburg since 2009. Stefan Utzinger, who has been acting as CEO at Novastor since 2004, oversees the company's operations.
The demand for "Made in Germany" software is growing, particularly for digitally sovereign managed services. Novastor's backup software offers security, compliance, and direct proximity to the manufacturer, all key factors in ensuring digital sovereignty. The company's software is designed to be made available to IT service providers, allowing them to offer managed backup services to their customers.
Axel Gillert, the Director of Channel Sales at Crayon, is responsible for the partnership campaign between Novastor and Crayon. He emphasises the importance of strengthening the digital sovereignty of IT infrastructures in companies. The data of the customers will be stored exclusively in German data centers, without the involvement of US hyperscalers.
Crayon's acquisition by the globally active software license specialist SoftwareOne may further expand Novastor's reach. A channel webinar scheduled for September 24, 2025, will explain how customers can obtain digitally sovereign managed backup services using Novastor's "DataCenter 10" solution.
Stefan Utzinger views the partnership with Crayon as an important step in enabling the channel to build digitally sovereign managed backup services. Both Novastor and Crayon believe there is a particular demand for managed solutions that ensure security, digital sovereignty, and compliance in data backup.
It is worth noting that there are no verifiable search results indicating that any international IT service providers merged with the German software company Novastor in 2025 or providing information about the current CEO of Novastor. However, the partnership with Crayon marks an exciting new chapter in Novastor's journey, promising to bring digitally sovereign data backup solutions to a wider audience.
