Crackdown on Illegal Labour in Construction: Main Customs Office in Schweinfurt Takes Action Against Unlawful Workers in Building Sector

The Financial Control of Black Work of the Customs (FKS) conducted a nationwide focused inspection against black work and illegal employment in the construction industry on June 18, 2025. A total of 85 officials from the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt participated in the inspection, questioning a total of 165 employees on numerous construction sites throughout Lower and large parts of Upper Franconia, including Schweinfurt, Würzburg, and Bamberg.

The inspection, which was coordinated by the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt and reported by ots, focused on ensuring employers had properly registered their employees for social security, employees were receiving social benefits correctly, and the minimum wages as per legal and collective agreement were being paid. Additionally, the inspection checked if foreign employees had the necessary work permits or valid residence titles required for employment.

The results of the inspection have revealed numerous violations, which require further investigations. The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt regularly conducts nationwide and regional focused inspections based on a risk-oriented approach, contributing to the detection and punishment of violations, particularly in the construction industry.

Coordinated inspections are an important tool for reducing the social acceptance of black work and illegal employment. The Customs place a significant focus on the construction industry in the fight against black work, and the inspection is just one example of their ongoing efforts.
