Court convicts LMCT+ for running illegal lotteries while director walks free

A South Australian court has ruled on a case involving Xclusive Tech Pty Ltd, trading as LMCT+, after the company was accused of running illegal lotteries. The business, which boasts over 300,000 subscribers, was found guilty of conducting 10 unlawful prize draws between January 2023 and May 2024. Meanwhile, its sole director, Adrian Portelli—known for his flashy persona on The Block—was acquitted of all charges.

The case centred on lotteries organised by LMCT+ that awarded winners cash, cars, and houses. Prosecutors argued that the company had operated without the required licence in South Australia from January 29, 2023, until May 16, 2024. Portelli's defence claimed he had applied for the correct permit but was allegedly given incorrect advice by authorities.

Portelli, often called 'The Block's Lambo Guy', did not attend the court hearing for the verdict. His lawyer criticised prosecutors, arguing they were attempting to undermine the 'life-changing impacts' the lotteries had on South Australian winners. Despite the company's conviction, Portelli himself was cleared of assisting in the unlawful activities. The court fined Xclusive Tech Pty Ltd $40,000, with further sentencing submissions set to be heard later on Friday. No other legal actions against Portelli or his businesses have emerged in Australia since the 2023 charges.

LMCT+ will now face additional sentencing proceedings after being penalised for running unlicensed lotteries. The company maintains a large subscriber base, while Portelli remains free of personal liability. The outcome closes the single known legal case against him and his businesses in Australia since last year.
