In a closely contested runoff election held on September 27, 2020, Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke (CDU) has been re-elected as Landrat in Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The preliminary official result shows that Petrauschke secured 59.8% of the votes, while his challenger, Andreas Behnck (SPD), received 40.2%.

Petrauschke, who has over 40 years of public service experience, was first elected as Landrat in 2015. Prior to his current role, he served as Kreisdirektor. On the other hand, Andreas Behnck, who belonged to the political party Bündnis 90/Die Grünen during the district administrator election, has also been a familiar face in local politics.

The turnout for the Landrats runoff election was 33.3%, significantly lower than the turnout in the previous election (53.6%). A total of 121,346 eligible voters participated in the election.
