Cops Detain Suspects over Jewelry Heist

In a series of unsettling incidents, two necklaces were stolen from individuals in Wolfsburg City Center within a span of three hours on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The first incident occurred around 18:45, with a 61-year-old man standing in front of a travel agency on Porschestraße. An unknown young man approached him speaking an unknown language. The situation escalated when the unknown man grabbed the 61-year-old's gold chain, leading to a heated argument. The suspect fled towards the City-Galerie, prompting the man's wife and two passersby (aged 30 and 47) to pursue him.

Approximately three hours later, at around 19:45, a 34-year-old woman had her necklace snatched in the entrance area of an ice cream parlor on the pedestrian street. Witnesses reported that the suspect dropped the gold chain and fled towards the City-Galerie. A chase ensued, but the suspect managed to evade capture, with two unknown individuals attempting to help the suspect escape.

The breakthrough came the following day, Thursday, when a 20-year-old suspect matching the description from the first incident was temporarily arrested in Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. The description of this suspect coincides with the description of the suspect from a robbery that occurred on Saturday.

However, the Braunschweig Public Prosecutor's Office did not apply for a remand order for the arrested suspect. The search results do not contain information about the 20-year-old suspect arrested on August 20, 2025, in Wolfsburg related to the necklace thefts in the city center.

The investigation into the necklace snatchings continues. For further inquiries, contact Melanie aus dem Bruch at the Wolfsburg Police, phone: 05361-4646104, email: [email protected]

It is advised that residents remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities. The police urge citizens to keep their personal belongings secure, especially in crowded areas.
