Electric Vehicle Sales Surge in Europe

June 2025 saw a significant increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales across Europe, with a total of 240,379 all-electric models sold, marking a 30,818 unit gain compared to June 2024. This growth represents a 14.7% increase and marks the 10th consecutive month of sales growth in Europe's BEV market.

Germany led the way in EV sales across the first six months of 2025, with the highest volume of BEV and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) sales. The Tesla Model Y was the standout performer, securing the title of the best-selling EV model in Europe since February 2025, with 69,223 deliveries in the first half of the year.

The Tesla Model Y's dominance was not without competition, however. The Volkswagen ID.4, which held third place in Europe's BEV market, saw a drop of 8.9% compared to 12 months ago, with 6,421 units sold in June 2025. On the other hand, the BYD Seal U experienced a significant surge in deliveries, increasing by 5,108% year on year, securing second place in Europe's year-to-date PHEV table with 5,885 sales in June 2025.

The VW Tiguan became the model to beat in Europe's year-to-date PHEV table in June 2025, with 29,182 sales, surpassing the Volvo XC60 by 89 units. PHEV deliveries soared by 39% to 118,914 units in June 2025, up 33,364 units on June 2024. PHEVs recorded slightly lower growth of 21.7%, with 594,806 deliveries in the first half of 2025.

Other notable mentions include the Audi Q6 e-tron, which posted 5,577 sales and a 2.3% share in June 2025, and the Skoda Enyaq, which had its worst monthly placement so far in 2025 with 6,562 units sold, despite a 15.2% increase year on year. The BMW iX1's market share increased from 2.5% to 2.7% in June 2025, while the Ford Puma saw a 17.5% decrease in deliveries year on year, with 3,560 units sold.

The Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.7 also saw changes in their sales performance. The ID.3 experienced a decrease of 29.1% in year-on-year deliveries, with 7,041 units sold, while the ID.7 saw a significant increase in deliveries, with 5,718 units sold, marking a 317.1% increase year on year.

In conclusion, the electric vehicle market in Europe continues to grow, with Germany leading the way in sales. The Tesla Model Y remains the best-selling EV model, but the BYD Seal U and VW Tiguan are making strong challenges in the PHEV market. With continued growth and competition, it will be interesting to see how the market develops in the coming months.
