Convert older ChargePoint stations to compatible with a variety of EV models using the new Omni Port conversion kit

In a significant move for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, ChargePoint, a leading EV charging solutions provider, has announced the launch of its Omni Port adaptable charging solution. This innovative technology is designed to ensure that any EV driver can charge their vehicle in any parking space, regardless of the connector type.

The Omni Port is available at no incremental cost as a standard feature of applicable new chargers. For station owners, this means they can upgrade to this cutting-edge technology with minimal expenses. ChargePoint's modular designs allow for easy upgrades, with the swapping of minimal components saving money compared to traditional upgrades.

Hossein Kazemi, CTO of Hardware at ChargePoint, stated that Omni Port enables customers to future-proof their charging infrastructure. "With Omni Port," he said, "EV drivers can be confident that they will encounter the connector type they need to charge at any Omni Port location."

The Omni Port caters to all modern connector types, eliminating the need for expensive or dangerous adapters. This can significantly reduce connector issues for a significant amount of the nation's EV drivers.

Drivers can enter their EV into the ChargePoint app to initiate charging. Tapping to charge in the app automatically releases the correct connector type, ensuring a seamless charging experience.

Currently, the ChargePoint Omni Port solution is available primarily in North America. Conversion kits are enabling older EV chargers to be upgraded to the Omni Port technology, supporting a universal charging interface (except CHAdeMO), and facilitating charging for all EV models on ChargePoint's network.

ChargePoint estimates that it holds more than 60% market share in publicly available networked AC charging ports in North America. The adoption of Omni Port by ChargePoint is expected to further solidify its position in the market.

Omni Port is ChargePoint's latest innovation aimed at solving problems for the EV industry.
