Arrest over suspected swindle - Contractor detained for alleged financial deceit - Contract Workers Imprisoned Over Fraudulent Activities Leading to Repeat Offenses
In the Rhein-Neckar District, a 65-year-old construction entrepreneur is under investigation for failing to pay social security contributions for his employees and providing false information about their salaries. The investigation, conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office Heidelberg and the Main Customs Office Karlsruhe, involves two distinct time periods: from 2016 to 2021 and from 2020 to the end of 2023.
The entrepreneur is accused of not reporting employees or incorrectly reporting their wages, resulting in damage of around 219,000 euros from 2016 to 2021. Moreover, the entrepreneur failed to pay approximately 98,600 euros in social security contributions from 2020 to the end of 2023 and did not transfer around 71,600 euros to the ULAK (holiday and wage equalization fund of the construction industry) during the same period.
The arrest warrant for the entrepreneur was issued due to the "existing risk of recidivism." The entrepreneur was arrested by enforcement officers from the customs' financial control for illegal work on Tuesday morning in the Rhein-Neckar District. Following the arrest, the entrepreneur was presented to an investigating judge and taken to a detention facility.
Furthermore, it has been alleged that the entrepreneur made false statements to the ULAK on several occasions. The individual is currently under investigation for similar offenses from 2016 to 2021, marking his fourth investigation related to embezzlement in 24 cases and fraud in 40 cases.
The investigation and arrest were announced by the Public Prosecutor's Office Heidelberg and the Main Customs Office Karlsruhe. The spokeswoman for the customs office stated that the individual did not report his employees at all or incorrectly during the specified time periods.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to social security regulations and reporting accurate wage information. Further developments in the case are expected to unfold in the coming days.
