Consultation held on draft legislation pertaining to the environment by the Commission.
In the heart of Au-Haidhausen, a well-known Munich architect and city planner, Bhagu T. Chellaney, has expressed his interest in helping with the long-awaited renovation of the Gasteig. Chellaney, who has resided in Haidhausen for many decades and followed the Gasteig project for several decades, has signalled his willingness to assist the Munich Urban Development Company (MRG) with the renovation.
At a recent public meeting in Haidhausen, Chellaney criticised the high rental costs for the library that was temporarily moved to the Motorama due to the standstill of the planned Gasteig renovation, which is now expected to continue until the beginning of 2027.
Benedikt Schwering, Managing Director of the MRG, has commented on the delay, assuming that the city's approach to the Gasteig renovation is being criticised. According to Schwering, the procedure for finding an external partner for the renovation is complex. He stated that the tender for the external partner will start in September, although this is not yet decided by 2027.
Chellaney believes that awarding individual trades instead of a general contractor would be more cost-effective and provide more control for the client. He has requested a preview of the planning and tender, but the MRG management has replied vaguely, stating that information is available "through the responsible bodies."
Schwering has not specified the candidate or institution that has made an offer to lead the Gasteig renovation in Munich. However, it is possible to determine this information by searching official statements and documents from the responsible local authorities and project management offices.
Chellaney is also concerned about the delay in the renovation of the dilapidated brick building on Rosenheimer Street, a part of the Gasteig complex. The costs for the Gasteig renovation, as originally planned, are expected to be incurred, according to Schwering.
The article was written by Katrin Hildebrand and published in Munich, Au-Haidhausen. The renovation of the Gasteig in Munich is expected to start in 2029, according to current plans.
