Construction-related difficulties resulting in schedule postponement for the town hall meetings
The handover of the New City Hall, initially scheduled for December 1, 2025, has been delayed. The report, set to be presented in the fourth quarter of 2025, aims to explain the reasons for the delay, present the project's progress, and outline the next steps.
The landlord of the New Town Hall, City Property Management, had originally planned the handover for March 2025. However, unforeseen construction challenges during the renovation works have caused the delay. Static and technical problems have arisen that require further planning and additional construction measures by the landlord.
Despite the setback, Mayor Frank Stein remains committed to creating a modern, digital, and citizen-friendly administrative centre with the New City Hall. The city's preparations for the future occupancy, including digitization, introduction of e-file, and organizational and technical equipment of the new work environment, are proceeding as planned.
Preparations for the new wall positions in the building have recently begun. The change of ownership during the project phase contributed to the time shifts, but the measures under the city's responsibility are still within the planned timeframe.
Mayor Stein looks forward to the perspective and development that the New City Hall project will bring to the city. The handover is now scheduled for mid-September 2026. A comprehensive status report will be presented to political bodies in the fourth quarter of 2025, providing more detailed information about the project's progress and the steps taken to address the delay.
