"Construction Project 'On a Glass' Emphasizes Equality Between Genders"
In the heart of Nordhorn, the community center of the Kreuzkirche on Van-Delden-StraΓe played host to a thought-provoking event titled "A Glass." Organised by Anja Milewski, the city's equal opportunities officer, the event aimed to discuss the topic of "Gender Planning" or gender-fair building.
More than 20 women from politics and the local community attended the event, which included four current councilwomen, an honorary councilwoman, representatives of the SPD, CDU, and Green parties, and other politically interested women from Nordhorn. Milena Schauer, Nordhorn's city building director, was invited as an expert, and presented current building and housing projects in the city, demonstrating how aspects of gender-fair urban planning are taken into account.
Anja Milewski also took the opportunity to introduce current topics from the equal opportunities office, with upcoming offers around the topic of cycling receiving particular focus. One such offer is the popular women's cycling course, which will start again during the autumn holidays. The women's cycling tour will take place on September 9th at 5 pm as part of the city's cycling challenge.
The event was not just about discussions, but also about practical knowledge. An additional event "Experiencing Safety" exclusively for women in cooperation with the police will take place on September 15th. This event aims to provide practical safety tips and advice for women in the city.
For those who missed the event, fear not. The next "A Glass" event is scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026, at 7 pm, to be held at the city gallery. Gallery director Dr. Thomas Niemeyer will give a thematic input at the next event.
