Construction of an arts and culture hub given green light for Oldham
Oldham, United Kingdom β Exciting developments are underway in Oldham's town centre as work begins on a new public space for outdoor entertainment in Hilton Square. This new addition, set to open soon, is part of the ongoing redevelopment of the area and is expected to be a significant benefit for residents, community groups, and visitors to Oldham.
Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, expressed her enthusiasm about the project, stating that the new outdoor space for arts and culture will be a great addition to the town. She believes it will provide a vibrant and intimate venue for performances, outdoor art classes, theatre productions, and more.
The new space will feature light and sound facilities for performances, an outdoor stage, and will be adaptable for various activities. It will also include planting, new trees, seating areas, external lighting, and improved paving, making it a comfortable and inviting space for all.
The design of the new space includes a central square capable of accommodating up to 150 people for an outdoor stage. This space will be located close to the proposed new theatre, the library, and the Old Library, making it the heart of Oldham's growing Cultural Quarter.
The inspiration for creating this new area is to make Oldham's town centre a hub for arts and culture, attracting more people to shop, attend events, and watch shows. The new space will be fully accessible and sectioned off for arts and events, ensuring it caters to everyone.
Councillors from Oldham Council have approved plans for this new public space, and the planning permission for the construction of the new cultural centre in Oldham was granted by the Oldham Council. The opening of the new space in Hilton Square coincides with the redevelopment of Oldham's town centre, marking an exciting time for the community.
Cllr Arooj Shah emphasised that this new outdoor space will be a great benefit for Oldham, stating, "This new space will create a more intimate, vibrant outdoor venue in Oldham's town centre, and we are excited to see it come to life."
With the new space in Hilton Square set to open, Oldham's town centre is gearing up for a cultural revolution, offering residents and visitors a diverse range of arts and cultural experiences.
