Construction of a new nursery in Blanche has commenced
Nordhorn Expands Child Daycare with New Kindergarten
The city of Nordhorn is taking steps to expand its child daycare facilities, with the opening of a new kindergarten at Niedersachsenstraße 78. This family-friendly kindergarten, to be known as the new "Eulennest," will provide a much-needed solution for the existing kindergarten of the same name.
Councilwoman Marlies Schomakers expressed her belief that the new kindergarten will have a very family-friendly character, mirroring the environment around Niedersachsenstraße, Pommernstraße, and Württemberger Straße. City Building Director Thimo Weitemeier welcomed the highly motivated team of educators around facility manager Frank Elskamp, who will also manage the "House for Children."
The building for the new kindergarten was constructed 15 years ago for a kindergarten in the residential area and has been made available to the city of Nordhorn by the municipal housing association. Previously, the "House for Children" was the only daycare center run by the city.
Work is currently underway on the pavilion on the grounds of the former Frensdorfer School, which will be converted by GEWO into a daycare center with a nursery and a regular group. The city will take on the sponsorship of the daycare center at the pavilion, with operations expected to begin there as early as the first quarter of 2019.
GEWO Managing Director Reno Schuett expressed his support for the new kindergarten, stating it would fit well in the family-friendly environment. Three new large daycare facilities with a total of around 30 places have already started operations in recent months.
In addition to the new kindergarten, the city of Nordhorn is working on creating around 200 new nursery places for children under three years old and around 225 kindergarten places for children aged three and over by the end of 2020.
The kindergarten "Eulennest" will be moving to the Blanke primary school, with rooms in the ground floor of the side wing being prepared and equipped for its reopening, expected at the beginning of 2019. All 15 places in the new kindergarten have already been filled based on allocation criteria.
Frank Elskamp, who also manages the "House for Children," aims to find a name for the new kindergarten with the help of parents and educators. The quality standards in the new kindergarten will be the same as those in the "House for Children."
The city of Nordhorn has also opened a new small kindergarten in its own management, which cares for 15 children under the age of three from Monday to Friday until 2 pm. Despite the recent openings, the search results do not provide information about which organization previously managed the kindergarten facility in Blanke before its recent opening. GEWO quickly agreed to hand over the building to the city for the establishment of the new kindergarten. The municipal building authority quickly redesigned and renovated the rooms in the building to prepare for the new kindergarten.
