Construction obstacles cause town hall schedule to be pushed back due to delays in completion

The New City Hall project, a much-anticipated development for the city, has faced some unexpected hurdles, as a series of structural and technical problems have surfaced following the demolition of the existing building. These issues necessitate additional construction measures, causing a slight delay in the project's timeline.

Despite these setbacks, the city's preparations for the future occupancy of the New City Hall are progressing as planned. The project includes the digitization of services, the introduction of e-file systems, and the organisational and technical equipping of the new workspace, all of which are on track.

Mayor Frank Stein, expressing his enthusiasm for the project, looks forward to the prospects and developments that the New City Hall will bring to the city as a whole. He remains committed to creating a modern, digital, and citizen-friendly administrative location with the New City Hall.

The expected handover of the New City Hall has been pushed back from December 1, 2025, to mid-September 2026. This delay can be attributed to unforeseen construction challenges during the renovation works, as well as the complexity of the project, its size, and the involvement of multiple project partners. Furthermore, the change of ownership during the project phase has also contributed to the time shifts.

However, progress is being made on the construction site. Recently, preparations for the new wall installations in the building have begun. A comprehensive status report detailing the project's progress, reasons for the delay, and next steps will be presented to political bodies in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Mayor Frank Stein remains optimistic about the New City Hall project and its potential to transform the city, eagerly awaiting the builder's handover of the New City Hall at the end of the renovation work, as planned in the official plans for 2025.
