Construction initiates on playground development at Greenwell Park
The redevelopment of the playground at Arthur L. Greenwell Park in Captain Cook has commenced, marking the first installation of new playground equipment at this park since 1998. This long-awaited project is being funded through county capital improvement project funding and is anticipated to last for approximately five months.
The local Parks and Recreation Department is leading the renovation work, with a focus on making the park facilities compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The upgrades will include installing new ADA-compliant Kompan brand equipment, as well as reconfigured accessible walkways throughout the playground.
One of the key features of the redevelopment is the installation of a synthetic turf safety surfacing system. This new surface is not only popular with kids but also known for its durability. The existing playground equipment will be removed, and noncompliant pea gravel surfacing will be taken out as well.
Regular hours for construction are anticipated to be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The playground area will be closed during construction, and the public is asked to observe posted safety notices and closures throughout the project.
Tom Callis, county spokesman, stated that the new equipment will be durable and popular with kids, making the playground a welcoming and enjoyable space for all visitors. The redevelopment of the playground at Arthur L. Greenwell Park is similar to previous upgrades that have been carried out in Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area and at Kamehameha Park.
This redevelopment project is an exciting step forward for the Captain Cook community, and it is expected to greatly enhance the playground facilities at Arthur L. Greenwell Park. The local Parks and Recreation Department is committed to ensuring that the playground is a safe, accessible, and enjoyable space for all visitors.
