Construction authorities move to secure funding for Gulch Road Water Infrastructure Project with a formal application for a grant.

The Sheridan Area Water Supply Joint Powers Board has applied for an Emergency Mineral Royalty Grant to help kickstart the Gulch Road 8-inch Water Line Project.

The application, submitted through the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments in March 2023, requests a grant of $300,000. If approved, the funds will be used for the Mineral Royalty Grant program, which, as stated on lands.wyo.gov, is designed to address emergency situations that pose a direct and immediate threat to public health, safety, or welfare.

The Gulch Road 8-inch Water Line Project is the intended recipient of the grant funds, should they be approved. Commissioner Lonnie Wright, a member of the joint powers board, mentioned that the grant will help get the project started, but it is not expected to fund the entire project.

The Sheridan Area Water Supply Joint Powers Board held an emergency meeting this week to discuss and approve the application for the grant. According to Commissioner Wright, the grant funds will be used to comply with federal or state mandates and provide essential public services.

The Mineral Royalty Grant program, as stated on lands.wyo.gov, awards grants to address emergency situations and is not limited to specific projects or industries. The program is open to eligible applicants, including local governments, schools, and non-profit organisations.

The Gulch Road 8-inch Water Line Project is an important infrastructure development for the area, aimed at improving water supply and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. If the grant application is successful, it will bring the project one step closer to reality.

The Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments will review the application and make a decision on the grant in due course. The public will be kept informed of any updates regarding the grant application and the Gulch Road 8-inch Water Line Project.
