In the recent 2020 district council election in Rhein-Kreis Neuss, several notable shifts occurred.

The Pirate Party, which was previously represented in the district council, chose not to participate in this year's election. Meanwhile, The Center Party, "The Party", Alliance 90/The Greens, UWG/Free Voters, The Left, FDP, and AfD all entered the new district council.

Alliance 90/The Greens significantly strengthened their position, securing 19.0% of the votes. The Center Party and "The Party" also made their presence felt, each securing a place in the new district council. UWG/Free Voters and The Left followed closely behind with 2.8% and 2.3% of the votes, respectively. The FDP and AfD also participated, earning 6.9% and 4.5% of the votes, respectively.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) maintained its dominance, winning 29 of 33 electoral districts with 37.8% of the votes. As a result, the CDU remains the majority in the district council of Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The SPD, despite losses, remains the second-largest district council fraction with 23.2% of the votes.

Interestingly, "The Active" did not manage to secure a place in the new district council.

In a separate development, a runoff election for the position of district administrator in Rhein-Kreis Neuss is scheduled for September 27. The incumbent, Hans-JΓΌrgen Petrauschke, and SPD's candidate, Andreas Behncke, will face off in this election. Unfortunately, the search results do not provide information about who will be running against these candidates.

A total of 53.6% of the approximately 365,000 eligible voters in Rhein-Kreis Neuss exercised their voting rights, resulting in a higher turnout than in the 2014 district council election (49.8%).
