Consequences for the fleet also from DVB-Sparkurs action

Dresden's public transportation faces potential failures as a result of the austerity measures implemented by Mayor Hilbert, according to the Left party. These measures will impact the vehicle fleet, and if replacement vehicles aren't provided, widespread breakdowns may ensue.

Consequences for the fleet also from DVB-Sparkurs action

In the heart of Germany, the Dresden Transport Authority finds itself in a critical juncture, as it lacks the necessary funds to co-finance the procurement of electric buses. This predicament has prompted the Left party to submit an urgent application, urging Mayor Hilbert to take swift action to ensure the operational safety of the Dresden Transport Authority.

The current fleet of the Dresden Transport Authority is primarily composed of outdated diesel buses, a legacy from the Sparkurs ordered by Mayor Hilbert. These vehicles, however, are not just old, they are also costly to maintain, with additional costs amounting to approximately half a million euros per year.

The situation is further compounded by the fact that the funding for the procurement of new buses has already been approved. The Dresden Transport Authority has received a funding decision from the Free State of Saxony for the procurement of 45 electric buses. The necessary funds for this acquisition are owned by the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG itself, with DVB being responsible for financing and managing these acquisitions.

Despite these approvals and available funds, the Dresden Transport Authority currently lacks the required own funds for co-financing the electric bus procurement. If the procurement of electric buses does not take place, the funding may expire, leading to a significant increase in maintenance and repair costs for the existing fleet.

The Left party has previously warned about the risk of major failures if vehicles are not replaced. They are now urging the Mayor to act quickly to prevent such failures and secure the funding for the electric bus procurement. The procurement of electric buses is not just about modernising the fleet, it's about ensuring the operational safety and efficiency of the Dresden Transport Authority.

The Left's call for action is a timely reminder of the importance of investing in sustainable and efficient transportation solutions. Let's hope that the Mayor heeds this call and takes the necessary steps to secure the funding for the electric bus procurement, ensuring a brighter, cleaner, and more efficient future for the Dresden Transport Authority.
